As Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein opens on Broadway at the beginning of next month, not far down the street off-Broadway, Frankenstein, the musical opens. I've heard some of the music for this version and it seems quite nice. It is a very simple set and the "monster" has no make-up or padding or anything special-effective about him. The creative team say they are cutting back on the stereotypical expectations so that the story will come through rather than a bunch of prosthetics. As long as they keep the fog...Frankenstein stars Hunter Foster as the Doctor- Bobbie Strong from Urinetown, and Steve Blanchard who recently completed his eight year run as the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, plays the monster.
