Mamma Mia- How Can I Resist You

Here is a first look at the new movie version of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia! It is so fun and exciting! The music makes you so great- I've watched this over and over. See the fun here!

Liltte Mermaid Update

There is a really good video of the Broadway bound Little Mermaid musical on theatremania.com today. It is very short, but they do show some great footage of what the show is going to look like. I love a show with good visuals- most directors don't realize how powerful and important a visual is to telling the story. Check it out here. Expectations

I've always thought that if you believe in someone what their accomplishments will be only as good as your encouragements. Half of what I do as a profession is brainwashing. You convince an actor to become "real" in the moment of the show even though they are wearing someone else's clothes and standing in front of a tree that is cardboard. You convince an audience that the situation is "real" and expect them to become emotionally involved in what is going on in front of them, even though that person is really not dying or that monster is about to eat the little girl in a red cape. The funny thing is- they do. They cry, laugh and completely get wrapped up in the moment of fake reality. You expect alot out of total strangers and most of them are happy to submit. Crazy thing, this acting stuff. Crazy world. Believing is two-thirds the battle. Far too many people don't believe anymore. To expect anything less would be asking someone to be average. Pi-shaw!

One of Those Moods

I'm in one of those moods where I think if someone were to ask for another thing I would belt a good one. It is usual for people to ask for things this time of year and for those people who are close friends, I am completely happy to ablige. However, when a total stranger sends you a list wanting to know when they can pick the items up with out even asking for them- I get ticked off. I also get irritated at people who do not respect schedules, space, equipment and assitance. Just thought I woul mention that. I'm going to put a Christmas tree tonight- that makes me happy!

More Simple Things- Oh So Good

Ok, so last night I was driving home and my need gas light came on. I pulled into the hot spot and proceeded to pump gas. As I was standing in the cold, I remembered that one of my students had told me earlier that day about all the flavored capucinos and hot cocos they have there. How good can it be? I've had gas station coco before and it is pretty much brown water, but by the time my gas tank was full, I was freezing and decided I didn't care as long as it was hot and would thaw me out. I ran inside and headed over to the long row of machines (yes, the dr. pepper slushie is still there- yay!) to find and entire land of flavors! I stood for a moment... contemplating... reading each label... guessing my mood... I got it narrowed down to cinnamon bun capucino, chocolate candy cane capucino, smore hot chocolate (yes! smore!) or coconut and almond hot chocolate. I chose the chocolate candy cane capucnio- because I had been listining to Christmas music on my way there. Heaven in a cup I tell you. But then, just when it couldn't get any better I get the coconut and almond hot chocolate this morning. Thick, creamy, dreamy. Later today I think I hear the cinnamon bun capucino calling. It is going to have to be pretty darn good do beat my coco this morning. Yes friends, I tell you- dreams do come true at the hot spot.

Happy Birthday Yo-Manda!

If you didn't know, today is Amanda's birthday. Here she is with Minnie Mouse celebrating. We all know Amanda is a very nice person, however, you should never get her mad. So in order to make sure no one has to suffer her wrath, here are some little known facts that you SHOULD NOT ask her about.

Never ask Amanda about her age- she is very sensitive. I'm not going to tell you how old she is, but let's just say when God said "Let there be light," Amanda said, "Whew! I thought I was blind." When George Washington had trouble with his wooden dentures, Amanda said "Here, borrow mine." How old is Amanda? Don't ask her- we are not sure homeschoolers can count that high. The only person that might know would be a certain waitress at Outback that was surprised to know that Amanda had spent a short amount of time in prison. I know, I know- I was just as surprised. But so you won't think I'm a fibber, I found some pictures to share.
As part of the women's correctional facility's rehab, the "crew" had to do community service. Here they are painting the restroom at the Hot Spot. Strangley enough, several hot dogs went missing that day.

She also had to pick up road kill on the side of the road. Judging from the color, I would say it has been there a while.

Here they are picking up trash. Ignore the whole poor children thing around them, that was just for pity and promotional use for the prison.

She also spent a bit of time in the psycho ward of a community hospital. They made dolls of themselves and then would recreate moments of "straying" from the path. It was a good way to see how choices can affect your future and how different choices could have kept her time in the pokie to be only a thought.

This is how I really know how old Amanda is. You can really see the age diffence between her and Everett.

Holiday Over

Holiday over. Wet, cold Christmas parade. Built a pirate ship! Treasure Island on Dec. 6th. One month from today is Christmas!

Wow, What a Day

This morning I get to the Fine Arts Building to find all of our Treasure Island set and costumes thrown to the sides of the stage, screws strown here and there, everything in a place that it was not when I left on Friday and half eaten meals, bottle upon bottle of water, peanut pakcs with no peanuts in the pack because they are all over the floor and hay. There was a program in there this weekend- one, which I might add, where some one gets paid handsomley to clean up after- that was obviously not supervised. Yes, I'm venting via blog while I wait for some one in the office to come around so I can speak my thoughts about the whole situation. I'm very tired of having to clean up the auditorium on Monday before I can begin class. If I make the mess, I will clean it up. If some one else renting the space makes the mess, I will no longer be passive about the situation. Peanuts- I guess they were hungery. Water- I guess they were thirsty. Hay- you've got me there.

Updates

It's been over a month since AGYG opened. Where is time going? Nikki and I have registered at a few places and are actually getting some wedding plans made. We saw White Christmas, the stage version of the musical at the Fox last week and was very bored. Strange show- they made it as if they were filming the movie with camera men and light poles all around, but they never acknowleged them. Then there was a horrible bell that would ring at the beginning and ending of every scene. Don't insult us by ringing a bell, we know it is time for a scene change.

After much consideration, I have decided that the summer musical will be The Scarlet Pimpernel. We have alaready gotten so much prepared due to last summers cancelation... I guess now we can call it a post-ponement, that it would be foolish to not pick it up and try again. Besides, I had looked into several different shows for the summer and couldn't find one that felt right. SP is different, very funny, has nice music and is a big, adventurous story to tell. As the summer should be- big and adventurous.

Cinderella has begun- I've bought fabric and starting research.

Finally, just when you think it could get no worse than David Hasselhoff in Jekyll & Hyde, do I read that the musical version of Rocky (yes, the boxer) is in the works.

Simple Things

Everybody thinks I'm so complex, some even say high matinence. I scoff. It takes so little to keep me happy. For example:

Hot Spot now has Dr. Pepper slushies. I think I teared up when I first saw the machine.

I found Christmas cotten candy at the grocery store last night. Only 99 cents a bag, and it's enough to make you feel gross when you are only half way through the bag.

Pens that blink, buzz or make me laugh- I don't even care if they write.

Skittles gum- the original is the best (combine one green, one orange and one yellow for perfection) that now also comes in carnival flavors. Red is candy apple, blue is cotton candy.

Snickers icecream cones or sandwiches.

Outback croutons- need I say more.

It has started again. Yes, the time of year when everybody is doing a program for the holidays and they expect me to loan out everything I have.

Little Mermaid Pictures

Disney just released new photos of the approaching Broadway production of The Little Mermaid. I've been a bit concerned from what I read production wise, but the third picture down of Sherie Rene Scott as Ursual makes me think everything will be just fine- it's a great photo.
